Annular Solar Eclipse of May 20 The first solar eclipse of 2012 occurs at the Moon’s descending node in central Taurus. An annular eclipse will be visible from a 240 to 300 kilometre-wide track that traverses eastern Asia, the northern Pacific Ocean and the western United States. A partial eclipse is seen within the much broader path of the Moon’s penumbral shadow, that includes much of Asia, the Pacific and the western 2/3 of North America.

Mayan Astronomy Whereas the Egyptians studied the movements of the Hyades, Orion and its companion star Sirius, the Maya were more interested in the nearby Pleiades star-cluster. They viewed it as the warning rattle of a great cosmic serpent, which seems to have corresponded to the ecliptic. The head of this serpent was the sun and they believed that it was the source of all life on earth.

The Plieades are the central group of the system of sidereal symbology. They are situated in the Neck of Taurus, regarded in astronomy as the central group of the system of the Milky Way, as the sidereal septenate born from the first manifested side of the upper triangle, the concealed triangle. The Plieades (Alcyone especially) are thus considered, even in astronomy, as the central point around which our universe of fixed stars revolves, the focus from which and into which the divine breath, MOTION, works incessantly during the Manvantara. — The Secret Doctrine by H.P. Blavatsky

‘Mermaid’ Hannah Fraser Swims With Humpback Whales 09/05/2012 A swimmer with a life-long fascination with mermaids has strapped on a tail to swim with humpback whales. Hannah Fraser, 36, crafted her first tail after seeing the film Splash at the age of nine. The Australian now works as a model, actress and performer, swimming with whales, dolphins, stingrays and even sharks. Hannah can hold her breath for up to two minutes and swim to depths of 45 feet, allowing her to move like a real mermaid, without the restraints of diving gear. In these images, she is pictured swimming with humpback whales off Vava’u Island, Tonga, to promote marine conservation and oppose whale hunting.
